Failed fire attempt last week at Shortys. It was 20 degrees or so, and wood was wet/frosty. Basically no chance this was going to happen, but we had to try.

You win some, you lose some.
The surf on the Oregon coast is pretty unpredictable. In the winter time, when the storms are heavy off of the coast, it usually can be assumed that the surf will be fairly burly. Summer time, on the contrary, is usually mellow and flatter. But it’s hard to say what will be happening, and sometimes, it’s necessary just to go look at the waves.
On this particular day, Darren and I got up early and headed down to Shorty’s, because the surf report said the swell would be decent. When we got there, it was gnarly, and dangerous. We ended up spending a lot of time on the beach contemplating paddling out, which we never did.
